Overall, mortality rates have declined among youth in the United States from 76 per 100,000 in 1990 to 60 in 2005.5 Although males consistently have a higher mortality rate than females, this downward trend has been observed among both sexes, as well as older and younger adolescents (see Figure 1).7 In 2010, rates of eclampsia ranged between 1 and 9 per 10,000 deliveries among the 20 European countries that provided these data, while the 2010–2011 rate of eclampsia in the United States was 7 per 10,000 deliveries. 10,19 Similarly, among the 17 European countries reporting hysterectomy data for 2010, the rate of hysterectomy ranged between 1 and 13 per 10,000 deliveries, while the corresponding 2010–2011 rate in the United States was 9.2 per 10,000 deliveries. 10,19 Data on disability status and six functional disability types are available for each state, the District of Columbia, and select territories. Data are also available for the US overall and by HHS region.
